At Welly Pre-school we recognise that parents and carers are the first and most important educators of their children, we see ourselves as partners with you in providing care and education for your child and aim to support our Welly families as much as possible. We operate an open door policy and strive to ensure that parents and carers feel welcome to speak to staff at any time.

When your child starts with us they will be allocated a key person who will get to know them and support them in their development and learning. Before your child starts, you will be invited to visit the Pre-school to meet your child’s key worker and the rest of the staff. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions and share with us any concerns or needs for your child. We also arrange for your key person to visit you and your child at home in your own environment.

We want your child to feel happy and safe with us so your child’s key person will work with you to decide how best your child will settle in. We would like you to be available to stay for the first session at least, if required.

The key person will keep an electronic learning diary for each child, we use software called Tapestry to keep a record of your child's progress and achievements in key areas and include observations and photographs which will be available online for parents/carers to view at any time. Tapestry allows you to view your child’s individual Next Steps and shows particular targets in the main areas of learning that your child is working towards. We encourage parents and carers to add observations and achievements from home too.
