Confident Communicators

At Horfield Welly we want children to be confident communicators. We recognise that children's communication and language skills are a prime focus, linking to all areas of learning and development.

Throughout their time at welly children will be encouraged to become confident communicators by engaging in a variety of activities (e.g. small and large group times, story times, singing, etc) to develop their communication skills. Through these activities adults will be able to model to children how to effectively talk and listen to others which in turn will aid the development of their own communication skills. Our core books program of study really helps us to achieve this goal as it can be used by adults  to promote the children’s love of stories, songs, rhymes and repetitive language in a fun and exciting way.

We are aware that children’s communication skills develop at different rates. Some children may struggle to communicate verbally and thus require the use of visual aids and body language to convey their needs and wants to others. Whereas other children may be more confident in their communication skills and thus are able to use words and phrases to convey their thoughts and feelings to adults and their peers. However far along the children are on their language acquisition journey the adults at welly strive to be caring, nurturing and supportive of their individual needs.
